Execution in Portal Server
E ditions drawn with the help of Report Designer can be launched from a Web screen of Portal Server with optional capture of input parameters. The result can be displayed on the screen, uploaded in real time via the Internet browser, or re-sent to the user by email after the generation of report. This full Web architecture does not require the deployment of editions on the users’ PC, and this reduces the risks of protection since the data for the report are extracted from the protected Documalis server.
Execution in Process or Workflow Server
Editions can also be executed directly in Process or WorkflowServer thanks to the « External Report » instruction. Documalis Designer has its own design screen for editions integrated to scenarios, and this helps to make full use of the parameters and variables Datasets SQL of the scenario directly in the report, without having recourse to internal databases of the report. This mode is termed ETR (Extract – Transform – Report) and it avoids in many cases the construction of Infocentre or Datawarehouse bases with the sole aim of generating editions at intervals on demand.
Execution on users’ PC
Documalis editions can also be launched on command line on a server, a nomad PC or the Windows user’s PC, via the deployment of the Documalis Report Runner engine on the selected PC. Databases are then accessed directly on the PC of the user who must have the relevant rights. The passwords used for access to the data cab be encrypted in the edition and remain hidden from the end user.
